BFAR-9 launches mission for Bohol typhoon victims

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Region 9 (BFAR-9) launched a mission for the benefit of the victims of typhoon Odette in Central Visayas, including Bohol, according to reports.
Reports say BFAR Regional Director Isidro Velayo said on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022, a total of 21 boxes equivalent to 620 kilograms of fresh and chilled fish were sent to Bohol. The pieces of fish delivered to Bohol are part of Oplan Isda program of the national government agency.
The  team from BFAR -9 used a refrigerated van that departed Zamboanga City on Feb. 7, 2022 and arrived in Bohol the following day.
The mission includes Oplan Isda, Kadiwa on Wheels, and typhoon relief operations, Velayo said.
“The program aims to establish a direct link between the producers, traders, and consumers to ensure a steady supply of affordable fish in fish-deficient areas of the country,” he added.
Velayo said the fresh and chilled pieces of fish were sourced from the Zamboanga City Fresh Fish Brokers Cooperative, one of the exhibitors of the Kadiwa on Wheels of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
BFAR-9’s refrigerated van was used to provide transportation and marketing assistance to ensure fish supplies reach Boholano consumers.
Aside from fish, Velayo added that assorted fresh fruits, vegetables, crops, and processed products from Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, and Zamboanga Sibugay were made available at the Kadiwa on Wheels.
A second wave of relief assistance to typhoon victims, included sardines from Zamboanga’s local fish canning industry and cash assistance donated by BFAR-9 employees.
