With the recent updated list of individuals identified for vaccination following the opening of minors for inoculation against Coronavirus disease (Covid), Bohol needs at least 570,120 more vaccine doses to reach herd immunity, according to a report of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).
The number of additional doses, does not take into consideration the vaccine doses needed for booster shots. Booster shots are given to fully vaccinated individuals, at least 3 months after the primary dose series.
In its January 2, 2022 report, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) of the Bohol Provincial Vaccine Operations Center (PVOC) based at the Provincial Health Office said in order to reach herd immunity around 1,009,340, Boholanos need to be inoculated.
The number already includes minors aged 12 to 17 years old. The said age group is now eligible to get the vaccine alongside adults, people with comorbidities and senior citizens.
Initially, the number of Boholanos identified as eligible for vaccination was pegged at 961,872 Individuals. As the number has changed to 1,009,340 individuals, Bohol would need a total of 2,018,680 doses of the Covid vaccines in order to reach herd immunity.
Health experts and epidemiologists have said that once 70% of the population of a given area has been inoculated the transmission rate of the virus would decline, according to the PVOC.
Bohol has been receiving, since March 2021 a total of 1,449,142 vaccines, the PVOC added.
As of Jan. 30, 2022, some 574,742 Boholanos have been given their two doses of the vaccines. Another 682,807 have received the first dose, and expected to be fully vaccinated in a month’s time.
