NGCP says Bohol now gets power from Leyte

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGGP) said thatit has energized the Leyte-Bohol power link as of Feb. 9, 2022, six days ahead of schedule.

In a Facebook post, the NGCP said that at 4:03 pm of Feb. 9, 2022, it energized the temporary towers that serve as the link from Carlos P. Garcia town and Ubay.
The NGCP erected temporary towers under the Emergency Restoration Systems (ERS), to link Bohol to its normal source of power, which comes from Leyte, according to the company’s spokesperson Betty Martinez.

NGCP had to erect temporary towers because its special towers, which served as link between Leyte and Bohol, were toppled at the height of typhoon Odette’s onslaught in Dec. 2021.

The NGCP said in its post that a temporary by-pass line was constructed to restore the interconnection of Bohol to Leyte.

The NGCP, earlier, promised to restore the link that brings power to Bohol from Leyte on Feb. 15, 2022.

Bohol sources about 60% of its energy requirements from supplierswithin the Visayas Grid through its interconnection to Leyte. The permanent restoration of these towers are ongoing using a new tower design with a higher wind-rating to increase its ability to withstand stronger typhoons, the NGCP said.
