Cong. Edgar Chatto, former National President of the National Movement of Young Legislators (NMYL) lauded the officers and members of the Bohol chapter in this week’s Provincial NMYL congress at Henann Resort. The provincial NMYL congress was held on Feb. 16-17, 2022.
In a virtual message, Chatto commended the provincial NYML, led by 1st District Board Member Aldner Damalerio, for embarking on a gathering which also serves as a platform in discussing local legislators’ role in mainstreaming climate change as well as disaster preparedness and resilience.
As chair of the House Committee on Climate Change, Chatto urged young local leaders to heed to the call of mainstreaming climate change at local level policy framework plans and program implementation, a resolve embodied in the declaration of climate emergency in Congress.
NMYL is a 4,000-strong national league of young political leaders with advocacies on good governance and capacity development.
Moreover, when Chatto was the vice governor of Bohol, that was the time he was as elected national president of the NYML.
The NYML, under Chatto’s leadership, forged strong collaboration among local and international young leaders of countries like United States of America, Australia, China, Myanmar, among others.
The NYML also hosted the Asia Pacific Forum of Young Leaders in Manila during an Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference, which the Philippines hosted.
Many young Boholano political leaders have joined these international gatherings, Chatto said.
At about the same time when Chatto became NMYL national president, he was also elected as the national president of the Vice Governors League of the Philippines and also chosen as the founding secretary general of the Union of Local Authorities of the Phils (ULAP), an umbrella organization of all local government leagues. The name of the ULAP was coined by Chatto himself.
Chatto also called on the group of young Boholano leaders to value opportunities to positively influence members in the community as Bohol moves forward towards greater growth and development.
