Boholanos abroad successfully raise funds for Danao typhoon victims

United States-based Boholanos have raised funds to help typhoon victims especially those from the town of Danao.

The Bohol Tribune learned about the fund raising drive from Glen Hubahib a Boholano who is married to a Boholana, Flor, from Danao town.

Glen said that his wife was able to solicit donations that were sent to Danao.

However, he and his wife knew that the donations were not enough and went on to a crowd funding site, GoFundMe.com to raise more money by way of soliciting donations for Danao’s typhoon victims.

Aside from the Hubahib couple, Flor’s sister Poyette Abad from Tracy, California was also able to raise some amount that was donated to the typhoon victims.

Individuals from the United Kingdom and New Zealand also contributed funds that were donated to those affected to the typhoon.

Glen told The Bohol Tribune that many responded to their call for donations. He and his fellow Boholanos were able to send funds to purchase construction materials and relief items in three tranches or disbursements.

The funds were sent to Danao coursed through the Florentino-Flaviana Cepedoza Foundation, which is headed by Dr. Florence Cepedoza, who is related to The Bohol Tribune’s columnist Dr. Bryan Cepedoza. Glen’s wife Flor is a member of the Cepedoza clan.

Glen said that he and his wife try to be low key as they don’t want to the public to think that there’s politics involved in their charity work, considering the Cepedoza clan has members who are in politics.

Glen went on to reveal that he and companions, Poyette Abad, Piloy Cepedoza, and Warner Cepedoza-Brijwal raised a total of P811,587.76 for the benefit of vulnerable families of Danao.

The first tranched saw the release of P332,507 and the said funds were used to purchase 600 pcs. of galvanized iron (GI) sheets and 80 sacks of rice where each sack weighed 48 kilograms.

Glen said he and his team initiated the release of P336,279.84 and the money was used to buy 800 pcs. GI sheets and 52 sacks of rice.

Moreover, about P142,800.92 was released as third disbursement of funds and utilized to purchase 420 pcs. of GI sheets and 12 sacks of rice.

Glen bared the distribution of the relief goods was facilitated by Belen Villamor-Lim.

The names of the donors appear in the advisement on page 3.

Some of the donors are from the legal profession and either current or former employees of Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google. Some of the donors are working in the healthcare industry.
