All That You Need to Know About Dental Veneers

(Part 4)

This week, allow me to present to you the pros and cons of having veneers so you will be able to make an informed decision whether or not to spend some money to have this kind of dental procedure.

We already discussed in our previous column that veneers can help fill the gaps or repair crooked tooth. Veeners can also make the tooth appear whiter and in the process enable the tooth to look more pleasing to the eyes of the beholder.

Please take note that veneers can resist stain on the tooth.

Veneers can also help fix minor cosmetic problems. These are also used to mask minor orthodontic problems.and hide any minor imperfections.

The most important function of veneers is to help protect the teeth. Veneers are better than a jacket as the veneers’ shell can protect the tooth.

Veneers are better than a crown because with these,  there is no need to plug a whole crown over the tooth.

The veneers can also help protect the enamel from acids, hard brushing and acidic foods and drinks.

Veneers can protect your teeth from enamel erosion and abrasion while making them nicer to look at.

As for the cons, veneers can be expensive. The cost of having veneers depends on how many teeth are involved.

Some patients claim that after getting their veneers, their tooth sensitivity has increased tremendously.

In a way, this defeats the purpose of using veneers to avoid tooth bleaching and prevent sensitive teeth risk.

Dentists say that the tooth may be sensitive a few days after getting the veneers. The increased sensitivity will go away after several days. If the sensitivity persists, it is best to visit the dentist right away. The dentist might recommend some dental products to repair the weakened enamel.

Veneers are considered to be permanent because the tooth has been altered.

The outer layers of the tooth’s enamel have to be carved out to make room for these composite resin, ceramic, or porcelain shells. If the shells become damaged, they’ll need either replacement or more drastic measures to save the tooth.
