Bohol is tightening its watch against the possible entry of avian influenza or also known as bird flu and infect local chicken population, reports say on Mar. 4, 2022.

This was the revelation of Provincial Veterinarian Stella Maris Lapiz.

The effort to guard against the entry of bird flu comes as the Department of Agriculture (DA), through the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), has confirmed bird flu virus among bird-based food products found in Bulacan and Pampanga.

Lapiz said that the provincial government started surveillance activities to check the movement of migratory birds which are visiting the province.

She added that the provincial government shall implement border control and inspect arriving chicken and chicken-based products, chicks, balot, chicken eggs and egg-based products from Luzon.

Lapiz bared that the said products should come from registered farms that regularly undergo bird flu testing and with complete requirements.

As this developed, it has been reported that Negros Occidental has implemented a temporary total ban of all live domestic and wild birds, including products derived from bird meat from all parts of the country.

The move was made by the government of Negros Occidental to prevent the spread of avian influenza to its local poultry industry, reports reveal.
