All That You Need to Know About Dental Veneers

(Part 5)

Allow me to continue our series of discussions on dental veneers.

First of all, we ask the question: Are veneers intended to be permanent? No! One can have them removed in a snap. There are times that the veneers can be removed due to blunt-force trauma, accidents, and the usual wear and tear.

Veneers also may break down and if this happens, one may need to get them replaced.

It is best to invest in more expensive porcelain veneers as they last longer. They are often rated to last for a couple of decades. The durability of veneers depends on how the patient takes care of them.

Now, let’s move our discussion to the expectations one should have when it comes to the veneer installation itself.

Usually, installing the veneers may take at least 3 visits to get veneers on your teeth. In the first session, the dentist will ask you relevant questions in order to understand the situation and provide the patient the available treatment options.

In the 2nd and 3rd visit, the dentist will create molds or use the computer to ensure the veneers will have a great fit. It is possible that some tooth enamel may be removed, it’s not as much work done if the treatment option is insetting a whole crown instead.

The dentist will then perform the bonding process.

What is the bonding process and what are other expectations one should have when getting veneers? These are questions we will discuss in our next article.
