Tagb gives a hero’s welcome to Magsayo

A grand hero’s welcome was given by Tagbilaran City led by Mayor John Geesnell Yap II to newly-minted World Boxing Council (WBC) Featherweight Champion Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo and his wife Frances on March 3, 2022, a report by the City Media Bureau said.

Mayor Yap was joined by First Lady Jane Yap in personally welcoming the Magsayo couple at the Bohol Panglao International Airport (BPIA).

A motorcade took place after the Magsayo couple arrived in Bohol from Manila.

After the motorcade, a short ceremony followed at the City Hall Atrium where family, friends, and fans alike were able to personally  the boxing champ in the flesh.

“We are optimistic that Magsayo, Tagbilaran City’s pride, will be the next Manny Pacquiao. We are committed to support him. His sacrifices and all-out efforts have made us all proud,” Mayor Yap said.

Mayor Yap has been supporting Magsayo’s career. In fact, it was Mayor Yap who organized and assisted Magsayo’s bid to defend his title against Japan’s Shota Hayashi in 2017 at the Bohol Wisdom Gymnasium.

 Mayor Yap also gave a cash incentive to Magsayo from the City Government for his victory against Danilo Diaz of Nicaragua in Pinoy Pride 41.

It was also the mayor of Tagbilaran who introduced Magsayo to Sen. Manny Pacquiao which ultimately opened doors to the boxing champ abroad leading to his chance to fight Gary Russel Jr. for the world championship crown.

City’s pregnant women get free ultrasound services, vitamins

The City Government of Tagbilaran provided free ultrasound services and prenatal vitamins to pregnant women in the city, on March 8, 2022, according to a report from the City Media Bureau.

Dr. Emevic Pascual led in the above-mentioned activity to women who availed themselves of the services given by the City Government of Tagbilran. 

City Mayor John Geesnell Yap II has been drumbeating the important role of women in society in celebration of Women’s Month.

The City Government has lined up various capacity-building activities with the aim of helping women improve their economic status.

“In fact, this year’s celebration leveraged on that core. We provided relevant trainings to enhance the enterprising abilities of the women. All of us have been a silent witness to the resilience of our women in managing the household, nurturing their children, and loving their husbands. Thus, this special day, we celebrate with women all around the world,” Mayor Yap said.

During the kick-off activity on March 8, 2022, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Project Coordinator Dr. Rosalinda Paredes shared insights about women empowerment along with City Councilor Dulce Glovasa.

 The second part of the kick-off event focused on entrepreneurship training for women.

An activity will cap off the celebration of Women’s Month on March 30, 2022, according to the City Media Bureau.
