Bohol will be getting the ability to access the early tropical cyclone warning system, which boosts the province’s capability to prepare for calamities brought about by typhoons.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), led by Vice Gov. Rene Relampagos, approved a resolution to grant Gov. Arthur Yap the authority to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the A2D Project-Research Group for Alternatives to Development, Inc.
The approval of the resolution by the SP was done at the regular session on Tuesday, March 22, 2022.
With the passage of the said resolution, the A2D Project and the Provincial Government of Bohol, through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), can start improving the province’s early warning system (EWS) to detect incoming tropical cyclones.
A2D Project, a non-government organization (NGO), chose Bohol as one of the six pilot provinces, to be given access to a system designed to improve disaster preparedness.
The NGO seeks to improve Bohol’s EWS for tropical cyclones, specifically to mitigate the impact of severe winds and flooding.
The NGO will provide and install early warning devices such as rain gauges and automated weather stations around the province.
Moreover, A2D Project will develop a web-based platform for disaster risk monitoring, as well as design a mobile application that can help disseminate early warning information to Boholanos.
A streamlined disaster risk information system allows Boholano communities to prepare better for disasters, especially those in landslide and flood-prone areas.
