Top Boholano pulmonologist is reminding the public that the pandemic is far from over.
This was the message aired by Dr. Bryan Cepedoza in a radio interview aired over Open Forum program on Mar. 29, 2022 hosted by Gloria Leodivica Araneta.
He said that other countries like China, South Korea and some European countries are experiencing surges in Coronavirus disease (Covid) cases.
Additionally, he expressed concern over the start of the election season. He said that as the election season has started, there is a possibility of surge in cases as people set aside the health and safety protocol, especially social distancing, during political rallies and gatherings.
“Kaming mga doctors, mga nurse, nga naa sa medical field concerned, gayud mi ani,” Cepedoza said during the interview.
He added that he would not be surprised if cases will surge if people disregard the protocol.
The doctor said that in the event of surge in cases, those who are unvaccinated will be hardest hit as those vaccinated are likely to get mild symptoms and survive Covid.
Moreover, Cepedoza said that due to the increasing vaccination rate, Covid cases in Bohol have dropped.
This does not mean people should be complacent as there is always a possibility of surge in cases. A surge in cases will provide an opportunity for the virus to mutate and pave the way for a possible vaccine-resistant variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which is the cause of Covid.
