All That You Need to Know About Dental Fillings (Part 4)
Allow me to continue our discussion on dental fillings. This week, we are going to discuss the kinds of dental filling materials.
But let us answer first the question: WHAT ARE MULTILAYERED FILLINGS?
The tooth-colored material is applied on layers after removal of the decayed parts of the tooth and after a cleanup of the area. This ensures that the filling won’t get removed easily.
The dental fillings are cured or dried using a special light. The light is focused on the composite resin in order to harden the filling after every layer is applied.
After the whole process of applying the resin is finally done, the dentist will use tools to manipulate the filling material to the right shape.
A drill or sandpaper might be used to trim off excess material.
Now, we are going to tackle the types of filling materials available to patients.
Teeth can be filled with silver amalgam or mercury mixed with various metals, gold, porcelain, or composite resin filling.
There are also filling materials such as the one that contain glass particles known as glass ionomer.
Next week we will discuss the kinds of dental filling materials available.
