Holy Name University (HNU) fetes its College of Law for the golden harvest where 44 of its alumni passed the 2020-2021 Bar examinations, a press release from the University says.
At the same time, one of its former students earned an exemplary mark following the release of the examination results by the Supreme Court on Apr. 13, 2022.
The record-breaking feat of HNU’s College of Law is timely considering the University’s celebration of its Diamond Jubilee Year. The HNU College of Law itself is celebrating its 74th year anniversary this 2022.
Following the release of the results of the Bar examinations, it was revealed that
Atty. Kim Cabello made his mark, as one of the “exemplary” passers in the 2020-2021 Bar examinations which was given on Feb. 4 and 6, 2022.
Atty. Cabello is the elder of the two children of Architect Gido Cabello and nurse-turned-business woman Rainelda Cabello of Tagbilaran City.
Atty. Kim Cabello said his parents were the ones who influenced him to cultivate excellent work ethic and study habits.
He developed the habit of studying 8 to 9 hours a day while he was in law school. He still practiced the same study habit even during his law review classes.
The new lawyer credits to God Almighty the blessings he received and is still reaping.
Atty. Kim Cabello prays regularly, asking the Lord for strength and guidance, according to the press release from the University.
As an alumnus of the leading Catholic university in Bohol, Atty. Kim Cabello is thankful to HNU for providing the right knowledge which propelled him and 43 others to their dreams of becoming legal professionals.
As for his plans in his legal profession, Atty. Kim Cabello shared that he is leaning towards a career in public service, perhaps getting a job at the Public Attorney’s Office in order to give good service back to the community.
He certainly exemplifies HNU’s ideals of servant leadership, according to the University in a press release.
Atty. Kim Cabello also makes particular reference to the words of their 2020-21 Bar Examinations Chairman Justice Marvic Leonen.
Leonen said that lawyering is a noble profession, of which Atty. Kim Cabello has the duty and obligation to ensure lawyering remains noble.
Moreover, Atty. Kim Cabello gives this piece of advice to future lawyers: “Make full use of the resources that you have right now and never let perfection nor failure get in the way of progress. Diligence will allow you to fix your weaknesses. Success will eventually follow when you let your actions, habits, and labor match your goals and expectations. Abraham Lincoln once said: “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four hours sharpening the axe.” Similarly, your four years of law school are crucial to passing the bar. It can be likened to sharpening your legal mind with which you will use to hurdle the
Bar examinations. Your foundation sets the pace for the Bar review period which is only a fraction to your time spent in law school. Ultimately, your purpose matters most in your law school journey. Always remind yourself of your ‘Whys’ in times of hardships. Be steadfast even if your purpose is as simple as wanting to help others because it is not a cliché; seeking justice for others is a universal principle and virtue.”
He then quoted Psalm 82:3 which reads: “Defend the lowly and fatherless; render justice to the afflicted and needy.”
Meanwhile, Atty. Kim Cabello expresses his gratitude to everyone who has been instrumental in his success .
He said: “I would like to thank the Almighty Lord, Mother Mary, all the angels and saints, for this achievement would not have been made possible without Him, My parents and sister, for their never-ending love and support throughout this journey in life, My family, friends, loved ones, for their support and prayers, To Holy Name University truly for the invaluable educational system which propelled us to greater heights in realizing our dreams, To the HNU Law Library Personnel for their service where I spent most of my days in law school cemented at the Law Library, And my deepest appreciation to all my law professors at HNU Law, namely Dean Abapo, Dean Vistal, Judge Magdoza, Judge Arcamo, Judge Mende, Judge Gamutan, Judge Barbarona, Prosecutor Doroy, Atty. Yap, Atty. Baluma, Atty. Carandang, Atty. Villares, Atty. Segovia, Atty. Maglajos, Dra. Jalad and Ma’am Apple, who were instrumental to my success in the study of law.”
