Top pulmonologist warned people of a possible surge in Coronavirus disease (Covid) cases after Election Day, which is after May 9, 2022.
This was the concern aired by Dr. Bryan Cepedoza during a radio interview on Apr. 27, 2022 over Open Forum radio program hosted by Dave Albarado.
The doctor’s pronouncements was a reiteration of the concerns of health experts that Covid cases may surge in the country after Election Day.
“Expected ang pag surge karong after Election [Day] daw, mao mani ang research. Mao ni ang prediction sa mga experts,” he said during the interview.
The World Health Organization (WHO), in early April 2022, warned the country of possible surge in cases especially after the May 9, 2022 polls.
Dr. Rajendra Yadav, acting WHO representative to the Philippines, emphasized that the country should prepare and possibly prevent the spike in Covid cases.
Cepedoza said that the health community in Bohol is now more prepared to respond to a surge in cases unlike the previous spikes in cases by ensuring the stocks of needed medicines and medical equipment.
The pulmonologist recommends for people to continue following the health protocol, for the senior citizens and immuno compromised persons to avoid crowded places and use N-95 face masks and avoid using surgical masks, in order to mitigate the surge in Covid cases.
Meanwhile, Cepedoza recommends getting the 2nd booster shot especially among the vulnerable population, which includes the senior citizens and those who are deemed to be immuno compromised.
He added those who got their 1st booster shot three months ago are already eligible to get the 2nd booster shot.
Currently, only the vaccine made by Pfizer is recommended to be used for the 2nd booster shot based on studies, he explained.
