The University of Bohol College of Nursing (UBCoN), headed by Dean Lalaine Lao-Domapias, joined the recent cataract surgical mission screening, according to a press release.

The said screening was also supported by the Gift of Life Foundation, Inc. and International Academy of Medical Services.

The event was held on April 21-22, 2022, at the barangay Cogon gymnasium.

Dubbed Operation Klaro-Bohol Gift of Sight, the 2-day surgical mission successfully provided free screening, physical check-up, ocular biometry, and cataract operation to beneficiaries.

A total of 1,000 Boholanos coming from the three Congressional Districts of Bohol were served in the cataract surgical mission.

The Gift of Life is headed by Francisca Baluyot, President and Chief Executive officer, while Dr. Frederico Malubay chairs the International Academy of Medical Services.

Other volunteer groups who joined the event were the Philippine Nurses Association and Mother and Child Nurses Association, Bohol Chapters, both headed by Prof. Melinda Pausanos. Bohol Chocolate Hills Lions Club, UBCoN Faculty, staff, and UB CON student volunteers.

There were also other student volunteers from other schools in Bohol such as Holy Name University, Bohol Island State University and BIT International College who also participated in the event.

In another development, UB now re-opens its different sports facilities starting April 21, 2022, to facilitate face-to-face training of student-athletes in basketball, volleyball, swimming, and karatedo.

This comes after the institution received clearance from the Tagbilaran-Inter Agency Task Force for COVID 19 (TIATF).

Lt. Col. Lino N. Garsuta, UB athletic sports coordinator, disclosed that on April 12, 2022, the TIATF already issued a safety seal for the university to start operating its existing sports facilities, including the UB gymnasium, Dojo gym, Victoriano B. Tirol (VBT) Jr. Aquatic Center, Beach Volleyball Court, and the VBT Jr. Sports Complex.

On April 13, 2022, the day after the issuance of TIATF clearance, the Office of the Athletic Sports Coordinator conducted an orientation among coaches and athletes to ensure that health protocol is observed during the training activities. UB has already produced exemplary athletes who excelled internationally and worldwide in boxing, swimming, karatedo, and weightlifting. It is also the home of an Olympic size swimming pool, nestled inside the campus of the Victoriano D. Tirol-Advanced Learning Center (VDT-ALC) in barangay Taloto, this city.
