Richli Water, Bohol’s premier water distribution utility, reveals its process in purifying the surface water that is being distributed to its customers.
The water distribution utility said it uses a 7-stage process to convert surface water into potable water.
According to the company the process starts with the extraction of raw water from the source. The intake pumping station draws raw water from Malingin waterfalls into a receiving tank.
The next stage involves the coagulation and pre-chlorination. Aluminum sulfate or tawas is used and binds to the silt or dirt.
A gas chlorination system is applied for pre-disinfection. The water is then mixed before it enters the flocculation basin. At this point, the raw water is highly turbid.
The 3rd step involves the water is gently mixed using varied mixing speeds in order to bind with the silt at the flocculation basin.
Richli Water said that the 4th stage uses gravity to set the silt and remove the flow from the water, known as the sedimentation stage.
The 5th stage is the rapid sand filtration where the water is filtered.
The 6th step is the final disinfection and storage of treated water. Here, chlorine to ensure the water is free from germs or contamination.
The final step involves the distribution of water to consumers.
