Acting Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Sec. Roger G. Mercado informed the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) that the agency has crafted a disaster-resistant evacuation centers design for Bohol.
The design, prepared by the DPWH, is able to withstand winds with a velocity of 340 kilometers per hours (KPH) and earthquakes with up to 8.4 magnitude.
The presentation of the disaster-resistant evacuation design is an offshoot of the request of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan’s (SP) resolution released following the onslaught of typhoon Odette back in December 2021.
Vice Gov. Rene Relampagos personally witnessed that a good number of evacuation centers was not able to withstand the onslaught of typhoon Odette, as well as Bohol’s 2013 7.2 magnitude earthquake.
Hence, Relampagos spearheaded the passing of the resolution to prevent any typhoon-related incidents in the near future.
With this new development, the Provincial Government of Bohol will do it’s very best to ensure the safety and well-being of all Boholanos, even it is undergoing a transition to the incoming administration.
Meanwhile, in a separate resolution, Relampagos asked the National Housing Authority (NHA), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and DPWH to fast track the assistance for typhoon victims in the province.
Moreover, Relampagos is most thankful for the immense generosity that has flowed from all sectors in our society, in collaboration with the continued delivery of the various programs, projects and activities of the Provincial Government of Bohol.
