Top pulmonologist pushes vaccination against new subvariant

Dr. Bryan Cepedoza

Top pulmonologist Dr. Bryan Cepedoza is pushing for vaccination as a means of protection against the new Omicron subvariant.

This was his recommendation aired during a radio interview over Open Forum program on May 17, 2022 hosted by Dave Albarado.

Cepedoza said that there is very little information regarding the new subvariant of Omicron, but it is known to be more contagious compared to the original Omicron variant.

He emphasized that the Delta and Omicron variants have the same ability to cause severe Coronavirus disease (Covid) infection among those who are unvaccinated.

To counter the possible damaging effects of the new subvariant of Omicron, the doctor is pushing for people to get vaccinated as the unvaccinated people are at risk of getting severe Covid.

Moreover, he emphasized that even with the low infection numbers, Covid remains a public health risk.

He then pointed out the need to observe health and safety protocol as the Covid threat remains in our midst.

On May 17, 2022, the Department of Health revealed the news about a case of local transmission of the new Omicron subvariant in the country.
