CA urges public to file complaint vs. overcharging tricycle drivers

City Administrator (CA) Cathelyn Torremocha urged the public to file complaints against overcharging tricycle drivers as the city government already allows the full capacity of tricycles now that Tagbilaran City is under Alert Level 1.

This was the statement of Torremocha in a telephone interview by The Bohol Tribune on May 20, 2022.

There have been clamor coming from the riding public saying that some tricycle drivers are still asking for more fare even if the cabs are allowed to accept more than 1 passenger at any given time.

Torremocha revealed that the ordinance says that tricycle drivers are only allowed to charge P10 per kilometer and P2 per additional kilometer as fare.

She added that the City Hall is open to accept complaints from the public regarding overcharging being made by some tricycle drivers plying routes in the city.

During the height of the pandemic, tricycle drivers were tolerated to charge P15 on the 1st kilometer as they are only allowed to accept a passenger at a time to comply with regulations related to the prevention of the spread of Coronavirus disease (Covid), according to reports.

Even if the tricycles are now allowed to accept more than 1 passenger, some drivers refuse to revert to the old fare scheme and reportedly still ask P15 which is not allowed, according to Torremocha.

Moreover, Torremocha said she will meet with the representatives of the transport sector in the city to dicuss the issues on the fare raised by the riding public.
