An investigation is being conducted to determine why a male tourist drowned as he dived in a spring in Candijay town on May 22, 2022, according to reports released on May 24, 2022.

According to Chief Master Sgt. Joseph Bayron of the Candijay Municipal Police Station the remains of tourist Rolly Tura, 39, were found underwater in Canawa Spring around 6 hours after he was last seen alive.

Tura was from Cordova, Cebu and was on a holiday with his family here in Bohol.

Tura’s companion alerted authorities when the victim failed to surface several minutes after plunging into the spring.

The police was alerted around 10 am about the incident, Bayron said.

A team composed of the Candijay municipal disaster risk reduction and management team and the Philippine Coast Guard initially conducted a search-and-rescue operation to save the victim.

The murky waters made it difficult for rescuers to immediately rescue the victim, the reports add.

A team from TaRSIER 117 was also deployed to help in the rescue operations, reports bare.

Moreover, the body of the victim was found around 4:45 pm, reports say.
