Police confirm Southern Star bus accident in Loboc town

Police confirmed that a Southern Star Bus bound to Ubay from Tagbilaran City met an accident late in the morning of May 26, 2022.

Lt. Camilo Estrera Jr., chief of police of Loboc police station said that they received the report regarding the incident at 10:45 pm.

Estrera in a telephone interview told The Bohol Tribune that the bus driver alleged that his vehicle lost its brakes upon reaching the vicinity of sitio Lumboy, barangay Jimilian.

The Loboc police chief said that the driver has been taken into custody following the incident.

He identified the driver of the bus as Nick Mascariñas Lubiano, 44, of purok 3, barangay Banban, Lila town.

Initial reports say that the driver found out that his vehicle lost its brakes when he was about to approach a curve area.

He used the hand break among others to try to stop the speeding bus, which in turn fell on its side.

Moreover, Estrera said that there were 17 passengers plus the driver and the conductor aboard the bus when the incident happened.

All of the persons aboard the bus sustained injuries but those who are assessed to be seriously injured were immediately brought to the hospital, Estrera told The Bohol Tribune.

The Loboc police chief said that the investigation is on going and the number of those seriously injured is still being determined by probers as of posting time.
