The bill converting the current Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) into a multi-specialty medical complex gets Senate approval, according to reports.

A counterpart bill authored by Sens. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara and Christopher “Bong” Go got approved by the Senate, with the aim of converting the current GCGMH complex in Cortes town into a multi-specialty medical complex.

The bill, when it becomes a law will create a paradigm shift within Bohol’s healthcare system, according to reports.

Reports add that the facility in Cortes town, which currently is under construction, will also help promote Bohol as a site for medical tourism.

The Cortes campus is among the legacies of Cong. Chatto who is also a former governor of Bohol.

During his incumbency as governor, the construction of the Bohol-Panglao International Airport was started.

It was also during the tenure of Chatto as governor when the idea of a third bridge connecting Tagbilaran to Panglao Island was hatched and now slowly being realized.

Moreover, it was during the Chatto administration that the new Capitol building was finished as the old Capitol was impacted by the 2013 earthquake. The new Capitol building is touted the largest government building in Central Visayas.
