The head of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in Central Visayas urged local government units (LGU) to require business establishments to install closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras within their business premises before granting business permits.
According to reports, PRO Central Visayas chief Brig. Gen. Roque Eduardo Vega said CCTV pieces of footage are effective in preventing and detecting crime.
These are also helpful in helping the police solve the crimes, the Central Visayas’ top cop said.
“Through technology, we can prevent crimes because lawless elements will have second thoughts of doing unlawful acts because they know there are CCTVs all over establishments and other areas,” he added.
Interior Secretary Eduardo Año recently urged all LGUs in the country to impose a “no CCTV, no business permit” policy in their respective jurisdictions.
The Central Visayas region is composed of the provinces of Cebu, Negros Oriental, Siquijor and Bohol.
