Port operator Globalport Terminals Inc. (GTI) has assumed the operation of the passenger
terminal, arrastre and ancillary services at the seaport of Tagbilaran after it bagged a
15-year contract from the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), reports say.
On the other hand, the PPA retains its role as regulator and administrator of the port
of Tagbilaran.
Globalport pays the PPA a concession fee of P3.903 billion based on the notice of award,
reports add.
The port operator was given a notice to proceed on May 20, 2022, according to PPA Bohol
ports manager James Gantalao.
As this developed, the PPA also implemented a standard tariff for the fees on all services
which are being used by all Tier 3 ports in the country.
The Tagbilaran seaport is classified as Tier 3, Gantalao mentioned to The Bohol Tribune.
Meanwhile, the new passenger terminal building (PTB) at the Tagbilaran sea port was
opened to the public on June 5, 2022, more than a year after it was inaugurated.
Based on information provided by the Department of Transportation (DoTR) during the
inauguration of the new PTB, the new facility is able to accommodate at least 1,000
passengers.
The old PTB has a capacity of less than 500 passengers.
Back in April 2021, Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade inaugurated the said facility.
The start of operations of the new PTB was stalled due to some documentary requirement as the installation of new port operator was still pending, according to reports.
