Top pulmonologist warns unvaccinated persons against BA.5 subvariant
Top pulmonologist Dr. Bryan Cepedoza warns those who are unvaccinated against Coronavirus disease (Covid) on the perils brought by the Omicron subvariant known as BA. 5.
This was the doctor’s statement in a radio interview over Open Forum on June 6, 2022 hosted by Gloria Leodivica Araneta.
He said the new subvariant of the Omicron varient is still under observation by the experts,
Nonetheless, people who are vaccinated have nothing to worry about the new subvariant, the doctor said in the radio interview.
He added that while added while vaccinated people can still get infected, they can only experience mild symptoms as a result of the infection.
Cepedoza said severe Covid cases among vaccinated infected with the subvariant is extremely rare.
However, the chances of having a severe case of Covid are high among those who are unvaccinated, according to the top Boholano pulmonologist.
He clarified that currently there is no recorded case of BA.5 subvariant in Bohol.
There is a huge possibility the subvariant has yet to arrive in the province, he said.
He added that he has no Covid patient under his care hospitalized due to the said disease, which is good news.
Cepedoza said in the event the subvariant has entered Bohol, there is a possibility of a surge in Covid cases here.
