<strong>Borja Bridge in Alegria, Catigbian collapses</strong>

The Borja Bridge in Alegria, Catigbian collapses this morning, June 16, 2022, according to reports.

The reports add that the bridge collapsed while a dumptruck carrying sand was passing through the said area.

Catigbian police station chief Major Rufo Potane confirmed the report that indeed a bridge in Catigbian collapsed this morning.

“Naagian ni sya ug dakong truck nga puno ug bas,” Potane told The Bohol Tribune.

He said the truck driver is safe and was invited to the police station.

The police identified the truck driver as Menerico Paredes, 46, of Calape.

Paredes said that he began to hear some cracking sounds as he felt the bridge began to collapse gradually.

As the bridge was gradually collapsing, the driver said he was able to escape. Parades said that he was unhurt and had no companions in the truck.

There are two bridges in the area. However, only one bridge is operational which is the one that collapsed, according to Provincial Engineer Camilo Gasatan in a telephone interview with The Bohol Tribune.

Gasatan said ha has already deployed some personnel of the Provincial Engineer’s Office to probe the incident as the bridge is under the provincial government’s jurisdiction.

He said his office will implement detours as the bridge is no longer passable.

Moreover, Potane said the police have already placed barricades in the area. He added that traffic coming from Sagbayan and Tagbilaran is no longer able to pass through the bridge.
