UB holds hybrid university days celebs

The University of Bohol (UB) successfully held the first-ever and one-of-a-kind hybrid UB Days Celebration from June 14 to 17, 2022, with the theme, Resilience in Unity, Strength in Solidarity.

With the opening of all its campuses and sports facilities, sports, athletics, literary, musical, and art competitions were conducted in a blend of on-site and virtual. This innovation was aimed to adhere to the health protocol set by the local Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) and the Commission of Higher Education (CHED), which the university is strictly implementing.

The 4-day event was kicked off with a motorcade along the city’s main thoroughfare and winded up at the main campus, where everyone was allured to the Zumba dances.

In the opening program, UB Supreme Student Government President Kiette Bitol delivered an address welcoming the participating athletes from 17 departments, faculty and staff, employees, and the UB/Rafael Palma College Alumni.

For his part, UB President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III gave an inspiring message to all the university’s stakeholders. The youthful University President has resounded the call for resiliency and unity. He attributed the gains of the school and its strength in withstanding the challenges brought by the pandemic and calamity to the unwavering collaboration between the administration, students, employees, and alumni. In the same vein, the opening ceremony was graced by Tagbilaran City Mayor John Geesnel “Baba” Yap II, who emphasized the importance of mental and physical fitness among the students, employees, and the community in his speech.

The three-term mayor and sports enthusiast further commended the University of Bohol for its significant contribution to the city’s development and the upliftment of the people’s Department mascots performed a showdown in the intermission portion to the audience’s amusement. Lighting the Torch of Sportsmanship was the be-medalled swimming prodigy Victoriano Martin A. Tirol,IV, while Karatedo Gold-medalist  Stiffany Mae Alvarez led the Oath of Sportsmanship.

The official opening of the UB Days 2022 was declared by the UB President himself.

Also in attendance during the opening program were the UB Board of Trustees members headed by its chairman, Atty. Ulysses B. Tirol, Atty.Marlumina B. Teh, Vice President for Academics. Ms. Ria Eva M. Sevilla, Vice President for Administration, Dr. Maricel A. Tirol, Vice President for Finance, college deans, and principals.

The UB Days 2022 showcased the talents and skills of the students-athletes in the following events: Lyrical Hip-hop Dance Competition, Dance Crew Competition, Tirol Medals, Debate, Battle of the Brains,  Music Fest, Dance Showdown in Folk Dance and Dance Sport, Volleyball and Beach Volleyball, Swimming, Frisbee, Basketball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Dart, Lawn Tennis, Chess, Soccer & Futsal, MTB Trail & Road Bike Challenge,E-Sports, Vlogging Competition, UBian Gladiators & Kite Making Contest.

The four-day competition had its final stretch with the formal announcement of  winners during the Salute to the Champions segment. It was followed by the traditional UBarkadahan Night and the Imato Year-End Program.
