Things You Need to Know about Tooth Abscess (Part 8)
Medications are used for the management of pain due to abscess. As such, pills bought over-the-counter or OTC might be called for when it comes to reducing your suffering as you wait for your dental, gingival, and/or periodontal treatment.
Make sure to follow the information on the instruction leaflet or packet as carefully as possible.
Painkillers should only be used for medication and symptom relief purposes. They are not going to treat the disease itself.
One still needs to visit the dentist for the actual treatment to remove the abscess.
Let it be known that certain types of patients may not take painkillers bought over the counter.
If you suffer from a chronic condition, it pays to consult a doctor before taking any painkillers. Please consult a pediatrician if the patient is a young child.
Pregnant women should be extra careful when taking painkillers.
If the patient with abscess needs to take antibiotics for the bacterial infection, then the patient can do so with the guidance of a dentist.
A patient can use these home remedies by cleaning the infected area using floss and with a soft-bristle toothbrush.
Avoid drinking any food or beverage that is either too hot or cold.
Chew on one side of your mouth that’s abscess-free in order not to agitate the infection.
A patient should remove plaque by proper brushing and regular dental hygiene. You should also floss to remove bits of food from within your teeth for good measure, since bacteria loves feeding on that.
Never allow the bacteria to spread within the soft tissue of gums or the inside of a tooth with dental cavities.
Observe proper dental hygiene in order to avoid dental abscess.
