Top pulmonologist confirms hike in Covid cases

Top pulmonologist Dr. Bryan Cepedoza has confirmed that indeed Coronavirus disease (Covid) cases in Bohol have increased anew.

He said he has at least 2 patients affected with the disease, but luckily these patients are vaccinated thus they are only experiencing mild symptoms.

The doctor did not take any chances and still applied antiviral medication to control the infection, he said in an interview aired over Open Forum on July 4, 2022, hosted by Gloria Leodivica Araneta.

While antivirals can help treat Covid, they are not easily available as the supply remains scarce, the doctor explained.

The number of cases of Covid has reached more than 30 as of Friday, July 8, 2022 after a 1 case status reported on May 31, 2022.

Fortunately, due to the vaccines, there is a small number of Covid patients  touted to be suffering  from severe covid case and need hospitalization, he bared.

He added that those who are unvaccinated are at risk of ending up with a severe or critical status of the disease and should be hospitalised.

Even now, Cepedoza said, the medicines used to treat critical forms of Covid remain scarce and expensive.

The pulmonologist also said that one of the possible reasons for the increase in cases is the decline of the immune response of those who have already been vaccinated.

He suggests that people should consider getting booster shots to improve their immune response.

He reiterated that those with pre-existing illnesses should also consider getting booster shots so they can protect themselves against severe forms of Covid.
