Mayor Jane Yap stresses stronger ties between executive, SP

In the inaugural session of the 15th Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP), Mayor Jane Yap took time to attend the said session as she stressed the need for strong ties between the executive department of the City Government and the city council, according to a report from the City Media Bureau.
Mayor Yap was able to squeeze in her tight schedule a meeting with the councilors on July 8, 2022 where she had to leave after her address to catch a flight to Manila and attend a meeting with other local chief executives that was organized by Malacañang.
Mayor Yap in her speech said that the executive and legislative departments should be working closely together to create meaningful policies and craft significant projects for the benefit of Tagbilaranons.
She stressed that the city council is a valuable partner in realizing her vision for the city based on the mantra: “Asenso Pa More Serbisyong Gugma sa Tanan”.
She listed several priority areas of cooperation which includes good financial administration and sustainability, disaster preparedness, social protection and sensitivity, health compliance and responsivenes, sustainable education, business friendliness and competitiveness, safety, peace and order, environmental management, tourism, heritage development and youth development.
Coincidentally, the priority areas mentioned by Yap are among the good governance criteria set by the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) which is an award being given by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to deserving LGUs.
Moreover, the mayor asked the members of the SP to find ways to protect the poor especially from the impact of inflation brought about mainly by the rising prices of fuel.
“We require policies to strengthen our strategies for revenue generation. We need to open the city for more businesses and investors. Our city council can explore policies to enhance our connectivity within the walls of city hall and outside, especially to the barangays, so they get connected with city hall, especially for online payments of taxes. All these and other policy support will be greatly needed and appreciated, so our city can achieve its dream to be a resilient, livable and highly urbanized city by 2030,” Mayor Yap said.

Tagbilaran City mayor Jane Yap joined other mayors and provincial governors all over the country in a meeting on July 8, 2022 organized by the office of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to discuss several important matters and concerns, according to a report from the City Media Bureau.
Among the agenda discussed in the said meeting held at the Malacanang Palace were the vaccine booster rollout, and the plans for the resumption of in-person classes.
Furthermore, reports issued by the Radio Television Malacanang (RTVM) regarding the meeting said that among those who delivered their addresses to the local chief executives were Local Government Sec. Benjamin Abalos Jr., Vice President and Education Sec. Sara Duterte-Carpio and the OIC of the Department of Health, USec. Maria Rosario Vergeire.
It was also reported that the president attended the meeting virtually as he had to get isolated after he tested positive for the Coronavirus disease (Covid).
