The Causes and Treatments of Pyorrhea (Part 3)

Allow me to discuss the causes of Pyorrhea.

Pyorrhea happens when a person lacks dental hygiene. It may also be hereditary, or due to being immunocompromised, as in the case of cancer or AIDS patients.

When persons allow bacteria to stick to the teeth in the form of filmy plaque or tartar, this will deteriorate the health of the teeth from the enamel to the periodontium tissues.

Bacteria tend to spread if nothing is done to kill them using a mouthwash that is able to eliminate these microbes inside the mouth. The mouthwash  may help to brush your teeth clean and remove off all plaque and food bits.

Flossing also helps a lot in scraping the plaque and the remnants of rotting food in between the spaces of your teeth. The key here is to maintain proper dental hygiene.

It is advised that people should see their dentists to check if there is a case of gingivitis and treat the problem as soon as possible.

The tartar and plaque are key things people should guard against as these can harden into deposits that could be difficult to remove.

The longer the plaque stays on tooth enamel, the more likely that your teeth and the periodontium will go down the line.

Periodontal destruction as a disease is caused by the destruction of the periodontium tissue or the supportive tissue that keeps the teeth anchored on the gums and jawbone.

The main cause of this problem is improper hygiene.

Pyorrhea may also be caused by certain chronic illness such as diabetes.

If you have diabetes, your chances of also developing periodontitis will increase.

Diabetic people are often asked to observe dental hygiene to save themselves from further complications like dental disease.

Another reason for pyorrhea is smoking. There are links between smoking cigarettes and pyorrhea development.

Continuing to smoke while your periodontitis is being treated also interferes with the treatment so you better get a nicotine patch and wean yourself from smoking altogether.

Next week we will be making another discussion of the types of pyorrhea.
