Bohol raises alert against suspicious meat sold online

The province has raised an alert against suspicious meat sold online. This move is aimed at stopping the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF), according to a report of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).

As this developed, Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Stella Maris Lapiz called on consumers to be careful in buying pork meat online and they should make sure they are buying meat that is ASF-free.

Bohol remains ASF-free according to Lapiz and the alert is on against the entry of meat tainted with ASF now that there are reports that some swine products in nearby Camiguin are infected of the disease.

It was in late 2021 when the Department of Agriculture detected the presence of the disease in farms and piggeries in Pampanga and Cavite and it did not take long before the disease spread in mainland Luzon and even in Mindanao.

“We cannot afford to have the virus here in Bohol,” Dr. Lapiz said.
