Magnitude 7.3 earthquake jolts Luzon

According to reports from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), a strong 7.3 magnitude earthquake jolted Luzon in the morning of July 27, 2022.

The PHIVOLCS added that the quake was tectonic in origin and was recorded around 8:43 am with the epicenter identified to be in Abra province.

The quake was intense that it was felt in several areas in Luzon, including Metro Manila.

Witnesses sent social media buzzing with reports regarding the strong earthquake felt in Luzon.

Abra province residents have started to report damage on social media.

Reports indicate that parts of the Vigan Cathedral in Ilocos Sur have been damaged.

Additional reports say that power is cut in Laoag.

The PHIVOLCS is saying Luzon residents should expect aftershocks following the monster earthquake.

To give context, the earthquake that struck Bohol in 2013 registered with a 7.2 magnitude and it caused widespread damage.
