NOW SHOWING

“Maid in Malacañang” at Screenville Cinemas

A fictionalized story of the Marcos family’s final hours in Malacañang before they were forced to flee to Hawaii at the height of the 1986 EDSA Revolution, “Maid in Malacañang” is now showing Screenville Cinemas of Island City Mall and Alturas Mall.

Narrated through the eyes of Imee Marcos (Ruffa Gutierrez) and the three maids who stayed with the family, the controversial film delves more on the story of a beleaguered family who were alone and scared during their final moments, as people, tired of decades of corruption and violence, gearing to storm Malacañang.

The center of the controversy is the scene of Cory Aquino (Giselle Sanchez) leisurely playing mahjong inside the monastery with the nuns. The Carmelite sisters in Mabolo, Cebu slammed the viral scene as malicious, as they were actually praying, fasting and making other forms of sacrifices for peace as the fate of the country was in peril.

Director Darryl Yap, whose movies include “Jowable” and “Paglaki Ko, Gusto Ko Maging Pornstar,” said the film is not a bio-pic but a dramedy – drama with a touch of comedy, and it’s even fictional in nature.

“MAID IN MALACAÑANG” is now showing at Screenville Cinemas of Island City Mall and Alturas Mall.
