The local government unit (LGU) of Balilihan is looking at creating partnerships with various civil society organizations (CSO) where the latter can help in the governance process, according to reports released on Aug. 9, 2022.

In a post, Balilihan mayor Pureza Veloso-Chatto said that around 20 representatives of CSO were invited to an orientation seminar.

The seminar is the first step in the possible involvement of these organizations in the creation, implementation and monitoring of various projects and programs of the LGU, the mayor said.

“Atong gidapit ang mga representatives sa labaw sa 20 ka mga Civil Society Organizations  sa usa ka Orientation Seminar kabahin sa ilang dakung kahilambigitan sa pag mugna, implementar og monitor sa mga kalain laing programa sa LGU,” the mayor said in her post.

The mayor hopes that the CSOs get themselves accredited with the LGU so they can become part of special bodies of the town government.

Aside from Balilihan, the City Government of Tagbilaran also has a special program for CSOs after the recent creation of a CSO desk by Mayor Jane Yap.

CSOs are seen as valuable partner in governance as they are able to bring in the voice of the citizenry especially in participatory governance, reports add.
