NGCP announces 15-hour Bohol brownout in Aug. 20

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced that power in Bohol will be shutdown for 15 hours on Aug. 20, 2022, based on a letter sent to the various distribution utilities and large power consumers.

In a letter dated on Aug. 12, 2022, NGCP’s Jiuseppe Lomaad, wrote that the power grid company shall shutdown Maasin-Ubay-Corella 138 kv line  next Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022.

The NGCP will be shutting the power down from 4 am until 7 pm or Aug. 20, 2022.

The power interruption is needed because toppled towers of the company due to typhoon Odette will soon be fully restored.

Thus, in order to complete the restoration, there is a need to shut the power down to allow the stringing of conductors, final clipping, reconductoring works on the towers.

Moreover, the Ubay-Tapal line will also shut down during the said activity for safety purposes, Lomaad wrote in his letter.

It can be remembered that certain special towers of the NGCP carrying the line from Tongonan, Leyte to Ubay, Bohol were toppled following the onslaught of typhoon Odette.

For this reason, the entire island of Bohol was without power during Christmas Day and New Year’s Day plus several weeks after.

The NGCP installed the emergency restoration system to allow the carriage of the line from Leyte to Bohol for the meantime while the permanent special towers were being erected.

The NGCP was able to bring power from Leyte to Bohol around the middle of February 2022, according to reports.
