The City of Tagbilaran received the Gawad Kalasag (GK) Seal 2022 Award as it is recognized as “fully compliant” local government unit (LGU) in disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM).
The city media bureau reports that the Regional Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) conferred the Gawad Kalasag Seal 2022 Award during the Disaster Resilience Month Culmination Program on July 29, 2022.
City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Research and Development Head Marko Emmanuel Longjas received the GK Seal 2022 Award.
For his part, CDRRMO Head Gerard Lavadia thanked all the people who supported the department in its endeavors in ensuring disaster risk reduction and management.
“We congratulate and thank all our members for being recognized as fully compliant LGU. The full support of the City Government has made all these possible. We are also grateful to the trust and confidence of the Tagbilaranons. Their cooperation to the initiatives we have launched inspired us greatly to do more,” Lavadia said.
Established in 1998, the Gawad Kalasag (GK) Search for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Humanitarian Assistance has served as the country’s recognition and award scheme for various stakeholders who promote and implement disaster risk reduction and management, climate change adaptation (DRRM-CCA), and humanitarian assistance programs that protect and shield high risk communities against extreme hazards and render them more capable of addressing their vulnerabilities.
Tagb’s livelihood program completes 2nd batch training

The Tagbilaran City Livelihood Community and Development Unit (TCLCDU) recently completed the training of the 2nd batch of beneficiaries in dressmaking and tailoring under the Bangon og Abante sa Bag-ong Asenso (BABA) Livelihood Project.
The 2nd batch of beneficiaries prepared for the Final Competency Assessment held on August 9 and 10, 2022 conducted by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
Once the beneficiaries passed the assessment, they will get their NC II certification.
Adelfa Salutan of TCLCDU said that the 1st batch is already set to operate the manufacturing hub.
The trainers from Bohol Island State University led by Jo-ann Ingking, Amethyst Lloren, and Nicole Louisse Faustor guided the new set of trainees. Aside from the skills trainings, the beneficiaries were also provided with social preparatory trainings on Values Formation, Responsible Parenting, Reproductive Health, Gender Sensitivity and Development, and Financial Literacy and Management by the Dean and professors from partner institution, University of Bohol.
Meanwhile, 15 out-of-school youths (OSY) were trained in the Souvenir Items Manufacturing Business.
According to Salutan, the graduates of this business course can immediately engage in business after being given the proper equipment to manufacture souvenir items.
