Tagbilaran CHO assumes post of BMS president

The City Health Officer (CHO) of Tagbilaran City assumed the post of the new president of the Bohol Medical Society (BMS) for a one-year term.

In a radio interview over Open Forum on Aug. 15, 2022, Dr. Jeia Pondoc, the CHO of Tagbilaran City said that she assumed the post of president of the medical group which was founded in 1936.

The BMS is the local representative of the Philippine Medical Association (PMA), Pondoc said in the interview.

Pondoc replaces Dr. Mardy Fortich as BMS president. Fortich is the president of the Diabetes Philippines-Bohol chapter, according to Pondoc.

Aside from Pondoc the new set of BMS officers are Dr.  Carlo Guerrea, vice president; Dr. Maria April Froilan, secretary; Dr. Jeannie Vergara treasurer; and the members of the board of directors are Dr. Reina Jane Demandente, Dr. Praxedes Elma Ladesma and Dr. Evangeline Lazaro.

Pondoc said that the group will continue to support key public health issues such as nutrition especially that obesity and corresponding chronic diseases have become a huge health issue.

Moreover, the BMS will continue to with partnerships with other medical groups and the private sector to push for key activities with the aim of promoting good health among the citizenry, Pondoc stressed during the interview.
