The Department or Transportation (DOTr) is seeking proposals from the private sector to participate again in the bidding for the operations and maintenance of several airports in the country including the Bohol Panglao International Airport (BPIA), according to reports from Manila.

It can be remembered that Cong. Edgar Chatto raised the issue on the operations and maintenance of the BPIA with DOTr Sec. Jimmy Bautista in a pre-budget hearing at the House of Representatives.

The report said the DOTr is looking at accepting bids for the operation and maintenance of BPIA and the airports located in Iloilo, Kalibo, and Davao among others.

The report adds that the review is based on the directive released by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. during his State of the Nation Address back in July 2022.

The reports indicate that the DOTr is also seeking proposals for the operation and maintenance of the airports in Bacolod-Silay, Cagayan de Oro, Busuanga and Puerto Princesa.

To recall, the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte received several unsolicited proposals for expansion, operation and maintenance of several key airports in the country including BPIA but none of the proposals were approved.
