UB tops Rebisco regional volleyball tourney

The University of Bohol (UB) Flying Lemurs Girls Volleyball Team reigned supreme over the Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu Magis Spikers after winning the Central Visayas Regional Finals plum during the Rebisco Volleyball League Under 18 Girls Regional Volleyball Tournament 2022 held on August 29 to 30, 2022 at Poblacion 2 Gymnasium, Tagbilaran City.

The Flying Lemus raked in 10 straight wins in the provincial qualifying legs (PQL) and regional elimination round, the reports mention.

The Flying Lemurs sealed their title run with a straight-set win over the Magis Spikers before a jampacked audience inside the Poblacion 2 Gymnasium. 

The UB volleyballs clinched the regional championship title and earned the right to represent the Central Visayas in the National Finals to be held in December 2022 at Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Reports say that all expenses of the team going to Laguna will be paid for by the sponsor, Rebisco.  

The University of San Jose Recoletos is the 2nd runner-up, and La Union National High School ended as 3rd runner-up of the said tournament.

The Rebisco volleyball tournament was participated in by more than 50 high school teams from across the Central Visayas region.

The following players from the UB were also given individual awards: Joji Maquilang – Best Middle Blocker, Gia Marcel Maquilang, Karren Clare Garrote – Best Opposite Attackers and Clare Jesselou Gam – Best Libero. 

Gia Marcel Maquilang was adjudged as the Most Valuable Player of the said tournament.

In an interview, Dr. Lemuel “LemJ” Belarmino, Student/ Personnel Services Dean and Head Coach of the team said that UB is the first Bohol-based school to win a Rebisco regional championship trophy.

The Rebisco volleyball tournament is known to be the nesting place of future national volleyball players of the Philippines.
