Cong. Edgar Chatto

Cong. Edgar Chatto delivered a privilege speech at the House of Representatives urging everyone to be concerned about climate change.

He confirmed this during a radio interview over Newsmakers Ug Uban Pa on Sept. 7, 2022, hosted by Ardy Araneta-Batoy and Dave Albarado.

He stressed the need to strengthen the efforts for adaptation and mitigation of the effects of climate change.

“Kinahanglan ni kay nagkagrabe na gyud ang gitawag nga global warming nga mao kini ang dako nga contribution sa nagkalainlaing kausaban sa klima karon,” he said during the interview.

He said global warming results in various calamities and disasters where damage and destruction have been felt by the people.

Bohol is no stranger to the impact of severe weather after the onslaught of typhoon Odette back in Dec. 2021.

The solon said that sea levels have risen lately due to the melting of glaciers due to global warming.

For this reason, there are islands now submerged as the sea levels rise, he explained.

In his speech he urged the public to be mindful in lowering the carbon emissions and seek climate justice from countries that largely contribute to climate change.

The entire privilege speech was played back during the Sept. 8, 2022 episode of Newsmakers Ug Uban Pa.
