The Department of Health (DOH) will soon release the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) related to Republic Act (RA) 11883 which establishes the Governor Celestino Gallares Multi Specialty Medical Complex (GCGMSMC) in Tagbilaran and Cortes, a law authored by Cong. Edgar Chatto, according to reports.

This was the information bared by DOH OIC Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire during the agency’s budget hearing after having been asked by Cong. Chatto.

DOH assured that the budget for personnel will be in place once Phase I of the project is completed.

Moreover, the procurement of pieces of medical equipment will also be conducted before the end of 2023, Chatto reported.

Meanwhile, the operation of GCGMSMC-Cortes is expected to start in early 2024.

During the budget hearing, Vergeire also expressed strong support for the partnership between the DOH and the Bohol Island State University (BISU) in the establishment and operation of a College of Medicine.

The DOH, through GCGMSMC, is partnering with BISU on the medical school operation.

Chatto was the one who authored RA 11883 which advances health services in the province through the expansion of the GCGMSMC in Tagbilaran and the establishment of another complex in Cortes.
