TALKING BIG

by Donald Sevilla

Talk big so others may not talk small of you.Regale them with grandiose plans to bloat your stature and establish yourself as a visionary.

Yet all the big talk and incredible storytelling remain just fancy tales without concrete steps taken for its realization.

Politicians often heap a mouthful for public consumption. They mesmerize us with their big plans to paint themselves bigger and better than the rest of us. But sadly these declarations are often nothing more than hot air.

When confronted by reality they fizzle out. How do you think did Hitler and others manage to hold on to power ? They kept people in the dark and made them believe in their beautiful visions for the motherland.

They rallied people behind their cause to make their nation great again or for their lives to move forward for the better.

Yet for all the fancy talk and tall tales, we must learn to be discerning. We must learn to sift the chaff from the grain lest we be taken for a long, long ride.

To make things a reality, our leaders must provide the impetus for growth They must lay down the foundations for a better society and a way of life. But have they?

Our problems don’t just go away by the wave of a magic wand. We must work hard to achieve our goals. Our visions and plans must be accompanied by a strong and sincere determination to see them through.

It is never enough that we just dream and talk big. We all must buckle down to work and get involved. We all must have our share of sacrifices for talking big is a sure sign of a lack of self-confidence and insecurity.

While the accomplishments of a hundred days may not bring much to the table, it can give us a feel of things to come. The success of a leadership depends on a leader’s ability to galvanize people and interests to work together for the common good.

In doing so he will have managed to let his actions speak for himself and not depend on empty promises and  grand expectations to boost his image before the people he has sworn to serve.

Talk less do more.
