President Marcos Jr. signed the bill postponing the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections into law, according to reports.
The law was signed by the President on Oct. 10, 2022, based on the document shared by Cong. Edgar Chatto on social media.
The law sets the election for barangay officials and SK council members on the last Monday of October 2023.
The succeeding elections for SK and village officers shall happen 3 years thereafter.
The barangay and SK elections are supposed to be held in December 5, 2022, but now is reset to October next year.
The incumbent barangay and SK officials shall remain in their posts unless removed from office, due to reasons provided by law, before the next year’s elections, the law says.
Those who get elected in the elections next year shall start their terms at noon of November 30, 2023, the new law adds.
