Bohol hosts national climate change fora series

Bohol will be venue for the launching of series of fora related to climate change matters. The launch will happen on Tuesday, October 25, 2022organized by Greenpeace Philippines, the Climate Change Commission (CCC) and the House Committee on Climate Change chaired by First District Representative Edgar Chatto.

The policy fora series will be held in Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and National Capital Region (NCR), seeking to establish better relationships and goals in developing a system of sharing climate change-related knowledge and harnessing the capacity of the local officials to take on the challenge of protecting the environment.

Moreover, Chatto in a privilege speech delivered during the opening of Congress had committed to closely engage with CCC, stakeholders and local government units (LGU) in consultations as mandated under the Climate Change Act.

The series of fora will feature panel presentations by partners such as the CCC on climate change impact to the community, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) regarding the Climate Change and Human Rights Report.

The Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities will deal on climate financing particularly the People’s Survival Fund.

Greenpeace Philippines will be discussing on the Disaster Risk Reduction Toolkit, and the Legal Rights.

The Natural Resources Center will tackle issues on Loss and Damage.

Key issues are going to be addressed including climate emergency and actions needed at the local, national and global levels.

The series or fora hope to inspire climate action leadership among policy makers.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has encouraged the participation of local chief executives and the agency’s regional directors in the various fora.

Chatto along with Greenpeace Philippines Executive Director Lea Guerrero, CCC Secretary Robert Borje will lead the series of policy fora.
