Top pulmonologist says people should still wear facemasks for protection
Dr. Bryan Cepedoza says that people should still wear facemasks as a means of protection against the Coronavirus disease (Covid).
This was the pronouncement of the top pulmonologist during a radio interview over Newsmakers ug Uban Pa on Oct. 25, 2022.
He said that even if there are directives that facemask wearing is already optional, it is still best to continue wearing the protective gear especially among the vulnerable sectors.
As of now, wearing of facemasks in outdoor settings is optional while there are plans to make indoor wearing of facemasks voluntary.
Yet, the leading expert in the protection of Covid infection in Bohol still recommends the use of facemask even if it is already optional or voluntary.
The doctor, in the same interview, discussed the new Omicron subvariant called XBB. He described the new subvariant as a hybrid of the Omicron variant with mild symptoms which means less harmful to those who have been vaccinated but may cause serious symptoms to those who are unvaccinated.
This subvariant is more transmissible, according to Cepedoza.
