Ramasola says sorry to HNU, libel rap gets settled

Emmanuel “Willy” Ramasola extends apologies to the Holy Name University (HNU) and finally settles the libel charges filed by the said University against him.

Ramasola, in a post on Nov. 3, 2022, confirmed that he and the HNU reached an agreement to settle their conflict.

A full-page advertisement is published on page 3 of this Sunday’s issue of The Bohol Tribune which prints Ramasola’s letter of apology.

In his post, Ramasola said that he and HNU reached a “compromise” stipulating that the latter will withdraw its libel case against Ramasola, in connection with his (Ramasola’s) comments about the Bohol Poll survey in 2019.

“All is well that ends well. Salamat Sir Boni Quirog for the mediation efforts. God bless us all,” Ramasola said in his post.

LETTER OF APOLOGY

Ramasola posted his letter dated Nov. 3, 2022 where he narrated his apologies to the HNU.

“I am writing this letter to express my sincere and profound apology to Holy Name University for my Facebook post made on March 15, 2019, without checking facts and involving the survey released by Holy Name University which I described as bogus and just copied from another group causing the University to file an online libel case against me in court,” Ramasola mentioned in his letter.

He continued by writing: “After serious reflection and analysis, I am fully convinced that my post which maligned the pre-election survey results of the Holy Name University Bohol Poll as well as several personalities of the University were bereft of truth and I have come to accept the consequences of my wrongdoing.”

Ramasola further wrote in his letter of apology: “I know with my Facebook post I have hurt and tarnished the good name and reputation of Holy Name University, Fr. Francisco T. Estepa, SVD, Fr. Ruel F. Lero, SVD, Dr. Maria Paz Jimenez-Espiritu, HNU Center for Research and Publications, and other individuals who felt aggrieved by the unsubstantiated attacks against the integrity of the University. They do not deserve any kind of public ridicule arising from any unfounded and malicious Facebook post. “

Ramasola also wrote: “I recognize the credibility of all the Holy Name University Bohol Poll surveys, as I am fully convinced that it has rightly established itself the distinction of being a professional, non-partisan, credible, reliable, and no-nonsense barometer of the public pulse on various issues.”

“To my dear Alma Mater, Holy Name University, and to the personalities that I have deeply hurt, please accept my genuine apology as I am truly remorseful of my actions. As a gesture of my road to reformation, in keeping with the true spirit of a Holynamian, I undertake and commit never again to malign the Holy Name University, Fr. Francisco T. Estepa, SVD, Fr. Ruel F. Lero, SVD, Dr. Maria Paz Jimenez-Espiritu, HNU Center for Research and Publications. Should concerns arise in the future involving Holy Name University and its employees, I resolve to bring the matter to the attention of HNU Administration and to the proper channels and not resort to the antics of social media,” he concluded.

BACKGROUD

The Makati-based businessman known for his FB posts especially during the administration of former Gov. Arthur Yap was accused by the HNU of libel. A warrant of arrest was issued against Ramasola by the Regional Trial Court branch 49 in Tagbilaran City.

The case stemmed from Ramasola’s statements questioning the results of Bohol Poll 2019 where it showed that Yap was leading over former Cabinet Sec. Leoncio Evasco in the gubernatorial poll conducted by the said university.
