As a follow-up to its tenement housing project launched early this year, the City Government of Tagbilaran in cooperation with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD),!is going to build another tenement housing project for the benefit of the urban poor of the city.

This was revealed by Mayor Jane Yap in her weekly interaction over Open Forum program on Nov. 25, 2022, hosted by Ardy Araneta-Batoy and Dave Albarado.

The new tenement housing project will be located at barangay Cabawan. The lot for the 2nd tenement housing project was recently purchased by the City Government.

The new tenement housing project has been sealed on Friday, following the visit of DHSUD Usec. Gary de Guzman. The mayor said the 2nd tenement housing project will be funded by the national government unlike the 1st one which will be bankrolled by the local government unit.

The Cabawan-property is about 3.8 hectares which will soon host the 4-storey, 40-unit housing project for urban poor beneficiaries.

According to the mayor, it is the priority of the administration of President Marcos Jr. to create more low-cost housing especially for the urban poor.

Aside from Tagbilaran City, the DHSUD inaugurated a low-cost housing project in Mandaue City.

Likewise, the mayor already mentioned that the identification of the urban poor beneficiaries of the housing project is on going.

Mayor Yap said that the PAG-IBIG fund will be the one providing the budget for the tenement housing as the tenants will repay the cost of a unit with minimal interest of 1 percent.

The mayor was informed that another tenement project is in the offing once the Cabawan project is done.
