Cong. Edgar Chatto thanked the leadership of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for bringing the

Disaster Risk Reduction: Saving Lives through Working with Nature (Greening DRR) project to Bohol.

Chatto’s chief of staff lawyer Abeleon Damalerio graced the launching activity of the project on Dec. 13, 2022

on the solon’s behalf to welcome American Red Cross (AMRC) Country Representative Shir Shah Ayobi, AMRC Country Program Manager Mark Braun Yaung, PRC International Relations Manager Norwina Eclarinal, USAID Humanitarian Assistance Officer Rachel Gallagher and USAID Foreign Service Program Officer Anna Hirt.

Provincial officials, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Dr. Anthony Damalerio, and local government unit officials from Lila, Garcia Hernandez and Loboc where the project will be implemented were present with Red Cross Bohol Chapter.

The project introduces nature-based solutions into community level disaster risk reduction approaches, the solon explained.

The project has been seen as a huge boost for Bohol as the province is a frequent victim of huge calamities and disasters such as 2013 earthquake and typhoon Odette in 2021.

Incidentally, Bohol is remembering the wrath of typhoon Odette that impacted the lives of Boholanos last year.

The date was Dec. 16, 2022 when Bohol was hit by the onslaught of typhoon Odette which affected the homes of at least 80,000 families.

Moreover, the USAID and the PRC have been helping Bohol in different capacities and this latest disaster risk reduction project goes a long way in mitigating the effects of calamities and disasters.
