UB ROTC presents sponsors in pass in review

The University of Bohol (UB) Reserve Officers Training Corps Unit (ROTCU) conducted a pass in review and presentation of sponsors in honor of the University administration on the occasion of the Founders’ Day celebration on December 9, 2022 at the Victoriano B Tirol Jr Sports Complex, Penaflor St., barangay Taloto.

Speaking to the Corps of Cadets, sponsors, and escorts, Dr. Victoriano Tirol III, the President of UB and the event’s guest of honor and speaker, emphasized the importance of the ROTC program, which is not solely for military purpose but also for training young students as responders to any calamity.

He further elaborated that defending does not necessarily mean taking up arms; it implies preparedness for any situation.

“Chances always favor the prepared ones.” Tirol said as he borrowed the line of Plato.

Adding color to the ceremonial parade was the presentation of sponsors and escorts composed of 26 beautiful students from the UB Senior High School Department.

This school year’s Corps Sponsor is Jean Kathleen Gran, a College of Pharmacy instructor.

She was escorted by the Corps Commander, Cadet Col. Clark Kim Lamoste, the troop commander of the pass-in review.

Likewise, Christyl Mae Sang-an, a faculty member of the UB Senior High School Department, assumed the post of matron of sponsors.

The event was the first ceremonial parade ever conducted by the UB RROTC Unit since 2019.

For his part, Lt Col. Eduardo Malig-on, the Commandant of the UB ROTC Unit, expressed his thanks and gratitude to the UB administration for the continuous support given to the program and for the development of the Citizen Army.

“We are grateful that after three years of deadlock due to the challenges brought by COVID-19, the UB ROTC Unit stood still and is now able to continue its tradition of pride and honor through the conduct of ceremonial parade / pass-in review and presentation of sponsors,” he said.

Malig-on is ably assisted by Lt Col. Lino Garsuta, a faculty member of UB and at the same time, the Battalion Commander of the 702nd Ready Reserve Battalion in the province of Bohol.

The 702nd Community Defense Center of the Philippine Army is based at Camp Esteban Bernido in barangay Dao .

Moreover, 2Lt Jessa Pilar is the training officer, Tech. Sgt. Bernardo Sagorio training non-commissioned officer (NCO) and Sgt. Bernie Bernal is the administrative NCO.

Other members of the training directorate include Major Myrna Thea Hontanosas, 2Lt Joselito Salaum, 2Lt Eduardo Magnanaw, as tactical officers.

Master Sgt. Marcos Castro, Sgt. Ivonny Villarojo, and Cpl. Marven Jumawid are joined by a pool of qualified and competent officers and non-commissioned officers both from the active and reserve component of the Armed Forces of the Philippines as training officers, tactical officers, administrative and training NCOs and tactical NCOs.
